11월은 유난히 길게 느껴지네요.
한국에서 싱가폴로 돌아오니 마치 두 계절을 살아낸 느낌이에요.
여러분들의 11월은 어떤 달인가요?
한해의 끝자락 같으면서도 아직 다 못다 한 일들에 대한 희망을 놓고 싶지 않아 마지막으로 다시 한번 힘을 내 보는…애를 쓰고 있는 그런 좀 색다른 11월이었습니다.
10월 수업을 마치고 한국으로 들어가 11월을 한국에서 맞이했습니다.
젊은 시절에는 한국에 들어갈 때면 몇 개월 전부터 동네방네 소문내고 친구들을 불러모으고 요란을 떨었는데 요란도 젊고 힘이 넘쳐야 가능한지 여러 가지 일이 동시에 안되고 하나씩 해야 할 일을 하다 보면 참 시간은 속절없이 지나곤 해요.
저는 친정엄마에겐 하나뿐이 없는 나름 귀한 딸이에요.
어릴 적 일을 하시는 엄마가 퇴근하실 때쯤이면 설거지를 해 놓고 집을 치우고 공부를 잘하지는 못했지만, 숙제도 끝내놓고 다음날 학교 갈 가방도 싸 놓고, 일하고 지쳐오는 엄마를 기쁘게 하고 싶은 예쁜 딸 이였던 것 같아요.
엄마도 “딸은 귀하게 커야 한다며” 저에게 하고 싶은 거, 해줄 수 있는 것을 열심히 서포트 해 주신 것 같고요. 그런 딸이 대학을 가고 연애를 하고 시집을 가고 바로 먼 외국으로 떠나면서 엄마에겐 바라만 보아야 하는 손에 잡히지 않는 남 같은 딸이 된 것 같아요. 어릴 적 보여주던 효도에서 말로만 하는 효도를하며 20년이 훌쩍 넘게 세월이 흘렀어요. 사실 멀리서 말로 하는 효도는 무슨 도움이 되어 드리겠어요;;;;;
그 사이에 딸도 나이가 들었고 엄마는 병을 얻으셨고 아빠가 참 헌신적으로 엄마를 돌보시다 얼마전부터 엄마는 요양원에 가시게 되셨어요. 이런 모든 일이 일어나는 순간에도 한결같이 저는 멀리 있어야 했고, 입으로 하는 효도 따위는 너무 염치없고 죄송해서 그저 입 뻥긋도 못하는 야속한 딸이 되었어요.
올해 가을 엄마를 다시 만났어요.
작아도 단정하고 강단 있던 엄마는 야위고 더 나약해지셨네요…
고개를 오래 가누고 있기도 힘들고, 눈을 오래 뜨고 있기도 힘들고, 혼자 힘으로 일어나 앉을 수도 없는데.. 여전히 생각이 깊은 사철한 울 엄마..

곱게 키웠는데 왜 고생스런 일을 하느냐며 엄마는 처음부터 싫어하셨고, 그런 엄마에게 저는 섭섭하다고 정색을 했었어요.
아픈 와중에도 걱정 속에 딸 마음을 상하게 하지 않으려는 엄마..
그 마음을 왜 모르겠어요….
그래서 요리하다 다치거나 아프거나 너무 힘든 날은 자동으로 엄마 얼굴부터 떠오르는걸요..
올 가을도 짧고 얕게 엄마 곁에 있다가 다시 떠나왔어요.
Shift와 만나 힐링하다
엄마를 틈틈이 만나면서 한국에서 처음으로 요리수업도 하게 되었습니다.
갑작스럽고 준비가 많이 미흡했지만, 멋진 분들의 제안으로 저의 첫 한국에서의 수업을 재미있게 진행할 수 있었습니다.
무엇보다 낙엽이 곱게 물들고 감나무가 빨갛게 익어가는 평화롭고 아름다운 공간에서의 수업은 저에게도 바쁜 일정 속에서 잠깐이나마 힐링 되는 값진 시간이었어요. 사실 수업은 모든 것이 충분히 준비되지 못한 터라 아쉬움이 남지만 그날은 다 같이 분위기가 더해져 너그러이 즐기신 듯해요^^

선선한 가을 공기에 있다가 어느새 따뜻한 싱가폴 공항을 빠져나오며 현실 속으로 돌아옵니다^^
모든것이 나의 뜻대로 짜인 나의 공간이 참 편하긴 해요.
돌아와서 3일을 침대와 한몸이 되어 여독을 풀고^^
다시 힘을 내 봅니다.
늘 그렇듯 수업 전에는 미리 준비해야 할 것들을 정리하고, 주문을 일찍 해야 할 것들은 다 주문하고, 때론 쉽게 구해지지 않는 것들이 있기 때문에 많이 서치하고 찾아내서 공수하고 실수가 없도록 준비를 합니다.
한국 가기 전 모든 테스트를 마치고 갔기 때문에 재료 주문과 미리 만들어 둘 것들을 부지런히 준비했지요. 이런 과정에 여행의 달콤함을 잊고 빠르게 현실 복귀가 가능한 것 같아요:)
한국에서 느끼다 온 가을 정취탓인지 아직도 마음은 가을 가을해서 집에는 여전히 낙엽으로 유지하고요~
11월 수업은 한식으로 매콤한 LA갈비, 돌산 갓김치, 들기름 막국수, 고사리콩나물들깨 찜 이렇게 4가지 메뉴로 진행되었는데요, 보통 수업에 어떤 메뉴가 제일 맛있는지, 어떤 메뉴가 실습하고 싶으신지 등을 여쭤보는데.. 이번에는 매일 똑같이 모든 메뉴가 다 맛있다고 말씀해 주셔서 열심히 준비한 고단함도 다 날아가는 기쁜 수업이었습니다.
수업에서는 제가 원맨쇼도 하고 저의 개인적인 이야기도 하고 때론 삼천포로 빠지기도 하며, 매번 새로운 분들과 다른 분위기로 수다 한마당인데, 11월은 한국 갔다 온 이야기까지 풀며 특히 야채값이며 물가비교 이야기하며 더 많은 이야기를 나누는 수업이었어요. 특히 요즘은 싱가폴 학생분들도 워낙 한국방문을 많이 하시기 때문에 한국 재료나 상황들을 낯설어하시지 않아서 많은 걸 공유하고 나눌 수 있어서 매번 놀랍기도 하고 감사하기도 했습니다.
특히 이번 수업에서 소개하게 된 돌산 갓과 더덕, 그리고 고사리 등은 한국분들도 좋아하시지만, 다른 외국 분들도 의외로 무척 좋아하셔서 새로운 경험이 되었고, 제가 같이 오더 해드리고 다른 조리법등을 공유해 드리니, 생소한 야채들임에도 바로 시연해보시고 생각보다 너무 그럴싸하게 만들어 내시는 걸 보고 은근 감동이었어요!!! K뷰티, 문화만 우수한 게 아니라 이젠 야채까지…
해외에서 사랑받는 한식이 흔하게 알려진 음식 외에도 그 다양성을 더 많이 알려지고 , 많은 분들이 경험하셨으면 하는 바람이고, 새로운 제철 한식 재료를 소개하는데 더 열심히 해야겠다는 아무도 주지 않은 사명감을 가졌습니다^^
수업에 오셔서 음식뿐만이 아니라 다이닝 세팅이나 그릇의 쓰임, 활용 등 되도록 많은 것을 나누려고 생각도 많고 몸도 쉬어지지 않지만 늘 열정을 다할 수 있는 여러분과 만들어가는 스토리가 참 귀하고 감사합니다.
12월 마지막 달까지 아름다운 마무리를 위해 열심히 신나게 준비해서 12월 수업에서는 우리 파티해요!!!

Just wanted to say a huge thanks for showing us how to marinate and cook an amazing Spiced LA Galbi dish. I’m totally in love with it! The marinade is absolutely delicious—the perfect blend of flavors that makes the ribs incredibly tender and juicy. Pairing them with the crunchy, sweet Deodeok is just heavenly.
I also enjoyed the mustard kimchi; its perfect sourness and crunchiness made it irresistible.
The buckwheat noodles with perilla oil, while subtle in flavor, complement the rest of the dishes perfectly too.

블로그를 읽고보니 현아쌤의 스토리가 가슴에 와 닿고 한국의 가을 정취가 물씬 느껴져 어제의 클래스가 더욱 더 따뜻하고 특별하게 느껴집니다.
정성스럽게 준비해주신 덕분에 이번 클래스에서는 싱가포르에 오고 나서 잠시 잊고 있었던, 좋아하던 일상의 재료들로 특별한 맛을 느낄 수 있었어요. 그래서 오래 남을 기억이 될 것 같습니다.
고사리를 정말 좋아했는데 고소한 들깨와 함께 후루룩 먹고, 또 제철인 생 더덕을 먹어보니 더덕이 이렇게나 달았나 새삼 느끼며 잠시나마 한국으로(한국의 가을 풍경이 보이는 멋진 레스토랑으로) 여행을 다녀 온 기분이었습니다.!
이번 메뉴들은 너무 취향저격이라 집에서 인생 처음 김치까지 직접 담궈봐야겠다는 저만의 미션까지 가지고 돌아온 알찬 수업이었어요!
현아쌤의 수업을 듣고나면 요리 스킬뿐만아니라 한국과 싱가포르에서 구할 수 있는 좋은 재료를 하나하나 알려주시는 것과 또 레시피를 이렇게도 바꿔 볼 수 있다 하는 응용법까지 알려주셔서 배움이 가득차는 부분이 너무 좋습니다 🙂

현아샘 수업을 들은 지 오래는 안되었지만 현아샘 수업 덕분에 맛있는 음식 뿐만 아니라 멋드러지게 음식을 내는 게 얼마나 중요한 지 배우고 미적감각까지 높아지는 것 같습니다! 🙂 싱가폴에서 유일하게 맛볼 수 있는 섬세하고 고급스러운 한식을 먹어보러 가야한다는 게 학계의 정설(?)이지만 배운 게 조금씩 쌓여 이제 집에서 가족과 친구들과 나눌 수 있어서 더욱 즐겁습니다 ^^ 싱가폴에 이런 수업이 있어서 감사할 따름입니다~
